LUINI IN A NEW LIGHT

“Luini in una nuova luce” (“Luini in a new light”) is a multidisciplinary project presented to Fondazione Cariplo in response to the competition “Local projects for the city of Milano and its provinces”. The project saw the participation of the following bodies: The Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana, as project leader; Fondazione Trivulzio, the University of Milano-Bicocca, the University of Milan, CNR-IFN and the Politecnico di Milano.

The project consists of performing different metric and scientific analyses on a selection of paintings by Bernardo Luini with the aim of enhancing the knowledge of them and to develop a group of integrated activities for the evaluation of the works. The aim of the project was to create a database to accurately track the information obtained from carrying out the activities and to share the models and data online.

The 3D survey of the works was performed using scanner and photographic imaging; in particular, the 3DSurvey Group was responsible for photogrammetric image capture and processing with the aim of the identifying the paint layers and to provide a three-dimensional framework for the subsequent georeferencing of the non-invasive and micro-invasive investigations performed on the works.
