TIFAIN INTEGRATED PHOTOVOLTAIC GLASS TILES FOR INNOVATIVE ARCHITECTURAL APPLICATIONS

The TIFAIN research project – Integrated Photovoltaic Glass Tiles for Innovative Architectural Applications – had the aim of creating energy efficient photovoltaic glass tiles that were aesthetically pleasing, modular and suited to integration in architectural surfaces such as the façades of buildings.
The innovative TIFAIN tile is made of transparent glass, has medium to large dimensions and a complex shape, and can be produced using moulds – a technique which is relatively cost-effective and environmentally friendly if compared to the typical processes of float glass manufacturing for the construction industry. It has a central area which can be transparent and opaque which is capable of taking on different treatments and colourations and housing the photovoltaic cells.
